Liftoff
An homage to Cathy Guisewite

My dear mushroom heads, things are still a little chaotic at Mushroom Head HQ, so once again I dug into the archives for the above comic. This one also dates from the Covid era, when I felt like I couldn't even think for two seconds without getting interrupted. I often still feel that way so that makes this comic sort of evergreen.
Also, I received the best comment of my life when I posted this on Instagram, from Ms. Cathy Guisewite herself.

Three Things That Kept Me Going This Week
- We have been loving the Malawi Wildlife Rescue series. It has literally everything: cute animals, gentle but important messaging about wildlife conservation, badass women veterinarians. One of them is an expert shot: she shoots an anesthesia-filled dart from a helicopter at a black rhinoceros running through the bush. I can't recommend this enough; it is the feel-good watch of the year for us. Also every episode ends with animals being released back into the wild, which is incredible.
- This very digestible history of the US Postal Service is a good reminder of why we need to fight for its preservation. Public Collectors is one organization invested in this fight. I bought these postcards right before they sold out. If you want one, reply to this email with your mailing address and I will put one in the mail for you.
- Mushroom Head reader and friend Megan Marshall's wry and thoughtful essay on the rise of novelized biographies—biographical novels?—is a great read.
Today is Purim, one of many holidays proximal to the equinox, along with Carnival, Holi, Nowruz, and others that basically seem to function as an excuse for people to dance and get shitfaced as they celebrate the arrival of spring. However you choose to celebrate, I hope you do so with care and joy!
Love,
Claire
