I ALMOST DIDN'T send a newsletter today due to a nasty head cold and general fatigue–Chad was out of town this week for work which meant I was parenting solo and I ran out of time to finish the comic I had been working on—but then this morning I heard Michaela singing "Ba Dee Ya" and I remembered that it was the eve of September 21st aka Earth, Wind & Fire Day so I had to commemorate.
We watched Robot Dreams last weekend, an animated movie based on the graphic novel of the same name by Sara Varon. I recommend reading the book, which is wonderful, before watching the movie, especially if you're watching with kids. Neither the book or the film has dialogue so I think even very little kids will enjoy it and Michaela and I enjoyed talking about the differences between the book and the movie, both of which are bittersweet tales of missed connections.

If any movie ever embodied the "saddest words of tongue and pen . . . it might have been," it is this one. Plus it is the best use of a disco song—Earth, Wind & Fire's "September,"—I have seen in film since the closing credits of "The Last Days of Disco."
Today in Mushroom News

Thanks to Jenny Perlin for sending me this pic from the Union Square Farmer's Market! The next time I'm in NYC I know where to go to find mushrooms.
Sending love to you all this September and remember: never let the lyric get in the way of the groove.
